22 Things I’ve Learned at 22

Following on from last year’s “21 Things I’ve Learned at 21“, it’s only right that I write up a new list for my 22nd Birthday this year!

  1. You’re stronger than you think you are. Life has a way of testing you but what matters is how you come out the other end.
  2. Things will work out. It’s all about having faith, staying positive and working hard. Never lose sight of your goals, there’s always a way to reach them – even if it takes longer than you planned.
  3. Everything happens for a reason. I wasn’t much of a believer of this until this year, but some things don’t work out to put you on a path for better things in the future.
  4. Take everything as a lesson. There is always something to learn from any negative situation or drama.
  5. Be passionate. Love what you love and do what makes you happy.
  6. It’s the little things in life. Happiness isn’t something that’s whole, it comes from being able to appreciate the certain moments in life that make you feel “!!!”. Some of mine include watching an amazing sunset, listening to a new song that I instantly love and spending time with people that are important to me.
  7. Experiences are more important. Whether it’s travelling or going to a concert – at the end of the day, you would want to look back at your life and be certain that you were able to experience as many places and people as possible.
  8. Choose your friends wisely. Having friends that love and support you is the best feeling in the world.
  9. It’s okay to say no. This goes for anyone or anything that makes you uncomfortable. It’s also okay to take a break from socialising, sometimes you just want to recharge and be alone – it’s all about that balance.
  10. Be open to new opportunities. Step out of your comfort zone, that’s when you grow as a person. Say yes to things you wouldn’t normally do or seek out opportunities that allow you to develop as a person.
  11. Work on improving yourself. Whether it’s becoming more self-aware or working on elements of yourself that you know you can change to become a better person, there’s always things you can improve on!
  12. Focus on what you can control. Sometimes there’s circumstances that are out of your control, however you can choose how to react to them.
  13. Every day is a new day. Sometimes you have shitty days, things don’t go right or you weren’t as productive as you would’ve liked to be. Aim to make the next day better than the last.
  14. Make your own difference. Volunteer, donate or even complimenting a stranger can make all the difference! It doesn’t have to be something big, small acts of kindness can make a lot of difference too.
  15. Don’t judge or assume. Things sometimes aren’t as they seem, so try not to jump to conclusions.
  16. You’re capable of anything you set your mind to. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
  17. Hard work pays off. Put in the work, and you see the results.
  18. Let go of things or people that bring negativity into your life. Sometimes it’s hard, but it’s worth it in the end.
  19. Team work makes the dream work. Surprisingly, this is something that I’ve learned from group assignments – different perspectives enable different ideas!
  20. Know your beliefs and values, but it’s also okay to change them. You’re allowed to change your mind, but make sure it feels right.
  21. Be open to growth. Whether it be personal growth or professional growth, the only way is up!
  22. Finally, don’t underestimate the power of driving with the windows down and blasting your favourite music!
